I finally got around to adding up the total cost of the delivery and hospital stay. Remember, this was a medicated, but not complicated vaginal birth, with 2 days, eight hours total time spent in the hospital.
Total billed to the insurance: $14,097.66
Provider discount: $6,385.03
Total paid bt the insurance: $6,155.57
Total paid by us: $1,556.40

Whoa! I just looked at the bills and filed them away! :) (KatieB from SLM)
Soooo sorry you had to pay such a lare amount. I am very thankful that for all 4 of my kids I paid 2 20 copays and nothing else! I had 2 c-sections too. Course, I imagine your sweet baby was worth whatever the cost!
Does that include the charge from your OB practice too or just the hospital? What about Jillian's doctors? We got so many bills, plus I prepaid the OB ... I have no clue what the final even I paid was. PLUS I overpaid the OB and still have a credit ... they said they'll mail me the rest back after they get paid by the insurance for my annual this year since I requested it. I'm pretty sure I paid over $2K. But Eva had her tongue clipped in the hospital, billed as surgery (ha!) and of course she hadn't met her deductible yet so we had to pay all of that.
That total is everything we were charged by the hospital, doctors, etc. from Apr. 5-7.
During the pregnancy the only thing I had to pay was $40 for a flu shot at my OB's office because the stupid insurance won't cover immunizations for adults. And we had to pay some of the total for my ER visits during the first trimester, and the ER visit after she was born for the allergic reaction to the pain medicine.
