Chicago Roots

I just learned that some of the sayings my family used when I was a child come from Chicago where my mother grew up and my parents lived for a few years before moving to Columbia...

"gym shoes" instead of "tennis shoes"
"front room" instead of "living room"

  2. In the 1960s we were still calling the refrigerator "the icebox" 20 years after they ceased to exist.
