I just learned that some of the sayings my family used when I was a child come from Chicago where my mother grew up and my parents lived for a few years before moving to Columbia...
"gym shoes" instead of "tennis shoes"
"front room" instead of "living room"
It's okay, as long as I never, ever catch you rooting for the Chicago Cubs. Go Cards!
ReplyDeleteIn the 1960s we were still calling the refrigerator "the icebox" 20 years after they ceased to exist.
