PETSMART logo

Petsmart changed their logo recently. (The new logo is on the top, the old logo is on the bottom) I just noticed the new logo last night when I got their latest ad out of the mailbox. I don't like the new logo. I think the old logo was neat because the ball was bouncing on the "s" and it makes it seem like it says "Pets Mart" or "Pet Smart". The new logo still does that but the ball isn't interacting with the words as much as it used to. It seems to be acting as an ' now. They changed the shape of the letter forms as well and also changed the colors obviously and even changed the shape of the little white highlight on the ball.

So what do you non-designers (and designers too) think of this new logo. I'm giving it a thumbs down!

Both are somewhat interesting logos (at least to me, as a nondesigner). Interesting as in confusing, that is. Is it Pet Smart or Pet's Mart?

Moving the ball to act like an apostrophe leans towards Pet's Mart, but the color changes say "Pet Smart."

It seems like the company is trying to be far too clever with the logo. The only part of the logo that seems to go with their business is the bouncing ball, but it seems almost like an afterthought.

Petco's logo, on the other hand, includes a dog and a cat, which just makes sense.

The ball seems even more of an afterthought now than it did when it was bouncing off the "s".

I like it. Or at least as a nondesigner. I am not a fan of Petco- they never have the right cat food or dog food we need. IF they have it, its not the right size!

I like the new logo. The colors are bright and cheerful. If only the didn't smell like pet stores.

This is sort of like the controversy of 'catsup' vs 'ketchup'!

I like the new colors but it does make it seem like it should be pet smart and I think the ambiguity of the old logo allowed people to identify it as whatever they prefered.
